Speedballing

I've seen speedballing on shows like Addiction and Intervention. I feel lucky to have never been introduced in person, although any addiction is a terrible thing to live with. Thank God for support and programs, and people like you who share their experience, strength and hope.

This seems like playing Russian roulette and all the chambers are loaded.

Sadly Ron and Mom, i didn't even have to google it, because i already know what it is. God help Alex because that's the only thing now that will.

My love and prayers are with you.

I used to be addicted to that. It took about two years from trying to stop crack to actually managing it. And I was mostly buying crack to hit it up in the heroin mix - the so-called speedball.

According to stuff I've heard and read, most addictive drugs give some degree of dopamine rush (amongst other effects). Even cigarettes and alcohol do.

A couple of years or so ago there was a flurry of press coverage in the London and National papers about speedballing, when some survey revealed that 75% of IV drug users in Britain were doing it as their drug (mixture) of choice.

Research published widely at the time revealed that a shot of heroin gives dopamine a +70% boost. With crack the rush is +200%. But heroin and crack or cocaine (it doesn't matter which) IV'd together gave a +400% dopamine rush.

I don't normally like to talk about this but I will say now that the high from IV heroin+coke is incomparable... no wonder it's so very very hard to stop doing it :-(

And this, of course, is on top of all the addictive properties inherent in heroin alone...

That one I am familiar with, unfortunately. That led to some behaviors my daughter does not remember, to this day. Her physical strength (and at the same time, her inability to perceive pain) was frightening. My thoughts and prayers will continue with you today. Hold each other close.

All I can do is pray for you and wipe away my tears at this point; and hope for the best for Alex. I'm so sorry that you have to even be exposed to this.

Unfortunately I don't have to Google it, its been Keven's method/drugs of choice since day one. He would often not have money for coke and of course became physically addicted to the heroin, so that's what I usually talk about on my blog.

I am so sorry. Its so scary. I don't know what to say other than, these are the times jail is the best place, maybe the only safe place.
