And today I read about a study citing alcohol as the most dangerous drug. It seems there is so much of hard drugs and booze these days. Hard to escape from any of it.
I read the article Syd is referring to and I have to disagree, there seems to be no worse drug than heroin and meth. I do agree that alcohol use is out of control, it is hard for a recovering addict to have any friends, as they all seem to drink. This has been the case with my son's friends. Also, what I gleaned from this program was that the "tough love" no contact with the addicted child did not seem to work. The families of the two children that were recovering were in close contact with the children and supported them all the way. My son has said that if I had cut off all contact with him and basically kicked him to the curb then he would have just spiraled down further into the hole as if your family doesn't care about you, then what is there to live for. It also makes me think about your recent post Ron about all of our cats being different and we can't skin our cat the way someone else is skinning their cat. I'd have to agree with that.
So encouraging and discouraging at the same time....I called Caron Renaissance (our son IS DYLAN) and it is 48000 for 3 months with up to 40 percent scholarship allowed....still sooo much...and those two have been there for 8 months so I cannot even imagine how much those families have spent UGH. Wish I had it!!!
We've done three stints at Caron (Pennsylvania) -- and at least seven in other rehabs -- but still, my son struggles with his heroin addiction. (Hi again, Dad and Mom.) I don't think there is a thing he could learn from the experience again. He's had a sober eight months. Not this year though. It wears me out.
We want to welcome you to our blog. This blog is principally going to be about parenting a drug addict. However as parents of drug addicts know they take up about 85% of your time, worry and stress, but there are other good things going on too.
My wish and goal for this blog is that maybe we can help you or you can help us. Feel free to e-mail us if you wish to comment or want to chat personally. Please if you want to post comments (good, bad, or indifferent) they will be very much appreciated.
Dad and Mom are parents of 3 and grandparents of three. Our oldest is the manager of Pediatrics at one of the top medical centers in the nation, the middle daughter takes care of our granddaughter and a couple other precious children. Our youngest is troubled with an addiction to drugs but is currently over 2.5 years clear and sober working at a company principally involved in foam and foam fabrication. Our blog is about his addiction and parenting an addict.
Please if you want to stay in touch become a follower. We are adding posts and people are commenting. Feel free to forward this link to anyone you think may be interested or need someone to chat with about these issues. To those that are FOLLOWERS, Thank You
