Heroin In The Suburbs

Last night ABC News did a segment on the importing of heroin and the targeting by dealers of the suburbs. If you didn't see it here is a link.

Things are OK, Alex is living with girlfriend. Sometimes distance provides peace.

Stick to your guns your doing the right thing, when I finally realized that it was Kellys problem and Kelly realized that I ouldnt be thetre everytime she needed me, she straightened out. I now believe that she is looking for an excuse to relapse, but I refuse to play that game. Good luck to you and MOM you have been a HUGE inspiration to me and my oldest daughter, we both felt horrible when we heard about Alex. Our hearts and prayers are with you.

Thanks for sharing that. I don't know what the answer is other than a lot of awareness by parents and kids.

Heroin is alive and well all over.. including jails and prisons... it is very scary.. so much for protecting people
Ron, you and your family are in my prayers. It is a journey for parents as well as the addict...however we parents look at it completely different. God bless you and your family. j

I saw a thing on ABC news with Dianne Sawyer last night... spotlighting where Drugs Education is going wrong in schools, by telling kids all drugs are equally bad. They know this not to be true, try some of the "bad" ones, like ecstasy, which in the UK is Class A ~ same as heroin... then assume heroin will somehow be just as benign. It was that type of reasoning that snared me into giving heroin a try. Of course I knew it was addictive, but I'd heard cigarettes were far more so, and I'd stopped and started smoking several times with ease... do you see where all this is going...??

I understand exactly what you are saying Gledwood.

When I spoke to the students at our high I was straight up with them. I spoke of weed and told them some of you may smoke weed or try it. But in all of my dealings with young oxy and heroin addicts I had NEVER met one that didn't start with weed. But I also added that as far as I know there is no way to identify those people that will stop with weed and those that will become heroin addicts. If you smoke weed which group are in, because every herion addict I spoke too NEVER dreamed of being a heroin addict when they were trying a little weed.

It's time for all of us to be straight with people about drug addiction. Take it out of the shadows in education, treatment and shame.
