For those that are interested The Partnership For A Drug Free America has posted another article I have written.
http://intervene.drugfree.org/2010/01/help-your-child-by-overcoming-your-shame/
This one is about overcoming your own personal shame as a parent so that you are better prepared to deal with the issue of addiction.
you are amazing!!
ReplyDeleteWell written, Ron. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou ARE amazing!! I am sharing this with my husband. I wish you two could meet. He is having such a hard time right now but doesn't know how to reach out. Thanks for making yourself available Ron. I hope you never stop! Your story, your wisdom, is so needed. .
ReplyDeleteIn gratitude...
Awesome job. I'm printing your article for handy reference.
ReplyDeleteUh Oh. I just worte about this organization today and it wasn't negative, but it wasn't exactly positive...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your article and in many ways it goes along with the point I was trying to make on my blog.
Good work, Ron!
Great article Ron! I think you will help a lot of parents who read it. One thing I have since figured out - that by trying to "keep my secret" I only hurt myself and Heather. I shielded her from the "consequences" she needed to grow as an individual, and the disease progressed. I am no longer hiding it, I love my daughter and will no longer conform to other people's standards/thoughts which is what I was dong by keeping it a secret... and "saving face" as a parent. Pride. You know what they say about all things kept in the dark will be brought to light. Wish I had started out there.
ReplyDeleteI hope you help many parents through that article to see that early on. Great article! & Best wishes!
Thanks for sharing this. I am grateful to not have children but will pass this along to those who do have and that are addicted.
