Tone In Your Voice

I just spoke with him on the phone and he told me about his release on Wednesday. I told him I would be there to pick him up.

I wish my son could hear himself. His voice and manner of speaking is so different when he is not using. There is a sharpness again in his tone. In high school he was very accomplished public speaker in forensics and debate. When he is using there is a slow painful tone when you listen to him.

As a parent you can hear these differences. It matters to us.

  1. Very true. I heard from H today and she was talking fast, rambling and started crying. Someone shoot me now! She always gets emotional when using...although she swore it was a few days ago and its out of her system now. Yeah, right.

Glad you got that glimpse of your old son. It does matter so so much.

  2. I am so happy for you that he will be home soon. I hope they do let you off Wednesday to pick him up, I can see how important that would be to both you and him.
Yes, we can hear these differences, we can feel them. I am so glad you're getting to experience the good feelings that come through his tone. Best wishes, Dad & Mom, for the Thanksgiving holiday :)

  4. Yep, I wonder if they would even recognize their own voices/mannerisms if they could hear/see what they are like while high. I hope this tone stays in his voice forever! I admire anyone who can do public debating, it takes a very sharp mind.

  5. I know that voice, it is the sweetest sound us parents can hear. I hope you keep hearing it and that he will also. Happy Thanksgiving, another reason to be grateful.
